A Guide to Find a Job
While it is difficult to search for a good job, ultimately it all depends on your approach.
When you apply for a job, you are actually selling yourself to a potential employer. It is important to let your potential employer know why you are the right person for the job over other applicants. How can you stand out from the crowd?
Make sure you create a great CV and cover letter. This is very important since it is the one that introduces you to your potential employer, and your aim is to impress them. Failure is part of the process so don’t take it to heart too much. Take the rejection and move on.
Below are some useful approaches to job hunting.
Joining Linkedin can benefit you much. This will look great to employers. If you want to keep yourself updated on job offers, build your social network by joining discussion groups of industries you are interested in. If you want to get noticed, then follow the companies that you like and put comments on their posts. Profesional comments are very welcome on these posts.
There are companies that hire people upon the recommendation of their trusted employees. Ask friends and family who work in industries that you would like to work in. You may be able to find out about vacancies which can put you at an advantage over your competitors if someone can recommend you.
Look for jobs outside of job listing. Don’t focus on vacancies but rather on companies. When you apply with this company, you already have an interest in it that will show in what you say. But you don’t completely reject job listings. If you see openings in a company that you like but the roles are not suitable for you, then send them a CV and cover letter anyway. Take your chance, they may still have jobs that are for people with your skills. If you make a great CV and cover letter, then you can show them what you’ve got.
You can also look for unfamiliar jobs that are available but you need to research on this and perhaps you will be interested to try them out. This less traditional career path will have less competition but it will give you more opportunities to expand your horizons.
How you handle the application process will give potential employers an idea of what kind of worker you are. Don’t apply until you have researched about the company. If you understand the company and what they do, it could work to your advantage.
